Minipost 16 – Things I miss about my family

Dear family,

Well, I’ve packed up the cases and I’m just waiting for the taxi to come to begin my long journey back to Bangladesh. I’ve enjoyed my few weeks here in Gloucester and I am sad to see the course finish – especially as there were some good people here who I will miss.

But over the last few days I’ve been very aware just how much I’m missing you guys. You’ve been particularly on my mind and I really wanted to let you know. You know I have a tendency to ‘think out loud’ so it’s no surprise I’ve put it on here – at least for those who know us, support us, or have got to know us through reading these pages. Really this is a very public declaration that I love you and I’m proud of that. I hope you’ll see it like that. In time-honoured tradition I’ll start with youngest first:

My Son: I have missed your smile and your ‘tigger’ bounce (annoying though I will no doubt find it soon when you bounce around in the morning whilst I’m still grumping around). I’ve missed your crazy ideas and wild inventions. I’ve missed the way you always love to hug and love touch even though you are ‘quite a grown up boy now’. I’ve missed hearing you play the guitar and how proud it makes me feel to hear it.

My Daughter: I’ve missed giving you a hug and bugging you by tickling you just when you’re trying to read. I’ve missed your dancing and you telling me about some new book you’re reading. I’ve missed your sense of humour. I love the way you still talk to us and I’m sorry I’ve not been there for you when you needed me over the last few weeks – I hope you’ll forgive me for that. I’ve really missed playing duets with you on the piano and I hope you’ve practised because I want to play lots with you when I get back. I love doing things with you and sharing interests only you and I (and, increasingly, your brother) have together.

My wife: I can’t write some of the things I’ve missed about you here because people are watching ( 😉 ) but I’ve missed you, ok? I’ve also missed just being with you, talking to you and sharing your day and mine. I’ve missed the way you giggle when I say something vaguely funny and the way you look at me when I don’t. I’ve missed your cooking! But I’ve also missed us watching a DVD TV episode last thing at night and you sleeping by my side.

I’ve missed us being a family and I’m looking forward to being back with you all very soon. You are all my rock and I’m really glad you will be there in Dhaka, waiting for me.

Love you,

Ken / Daddy xx

With this post I ‘go dark’ for a few days – so you have the minipost a little early but it will be next week before I get another post up. Travel and getting to know my family again will take a little time – you understand 🙂

Feel free to share posts on your own sites, click the blogsurfer to keep readers coming, rate posts and comments or add comments yourself. I will still be checking the blog and will answer as quick as I can. See you at the next post! K.

And I bet they missed you too. I look forward to reading about the things they missed about you. Although I’ve never met your family (perhaps vicky once) I know you have a wonderful family. Perfect 🙂

    Kenthinksaloud,
What a beautiful tribute to you and your family. There is nothing better then being so proud of your loved one’s. That’s how it’s suppose to be. Family means the world to me. The love between parents and their children is precious that I wish we could bottle it up and offer it to the one’s who have never experienced the love of parents, siblings, and self.
Thank you for sharing the love the surrounds you. “NOW WHAT?”

Oh, that was really sweet. It must be really hard, and I have experienced it just once in my life. Your family is lucky. They might be missing you a lot.

The children are going to kill you when you get home for embarrassing them (but it has made them smile from ear to ear!:)) Thank you my wonderful husband and we cant wait until we are a whole again. Btw Sam has drawn all his mad inventions in a book just so you haven’t missed any ;)xx

Well Kenny, that nearly bought a tear to my eye! You soppy man! But it is so nice to hear Fathers say nice things about their kids, I say this as my daddy rang me up today to tell me how proud he is of me for doing so well at uni. (Keep saying nice things to your daughter, we like being told, even though we sometimes get embarrassed). xx

    • Thanks darlin – from you that’s HIGH praise indeed! I have been reminded in myself recently that I don’t tell either of my kids how special they are or how much I love them enough and need to get back to doing that a lot.
PS I’m proud of you too 🙂 x
