Shubho Borodin – Merry Christmas across the World

Well, my final post before Christmas Day itself (in fact for some of you now it is already Christmas day) – leaving me a few days to finish of several series of posts I wanted clear before the year was out; so not a time for a round-up of the year, as yet, but definitely one where I wish to send you all a very warm season’s greetings

It has been wonderful to see this blog grow amazingly over the last year and to think it is now read regularly in 117 countries. Thank you to all of you who continue to support my endeavours here by reading, liking, sharing and commenting on the blog and making this an international community.

To all my blogging friends I am particularly thankful for all of you who take the time to peruse the blog. I know how difficult it can be with hundreds of posts from blogs we follow coming in week after week, trying to decide what you will read and what you will merely press ‘delete’ for instead. For your decisions, week after week, not to hit that button but read and even take time to comment, I am eternally grateful.

So Merry Christmas to you all – whatever your religion of faith perspective or however you feel about the commercialism of the season (one of the things I like about living in Bangladesh is the complete absence of the ‘selling’ of Christmas), it is still a time of the year when we can try to believe that humankind has the capacity to be nice to each other for once.

I learned early in life that people can be quite horrible to one another. I also learned that it does not necessarily take bad people to do bad things to others. Sometimes just doing nothing is enough to ensure bad things happen to others. But when I was a teenager my life turned around and swore to myself then that I would re-capture the childhood that was taken from me and live as naively as I could (yes, I see naivety as a good thing). Since then, as much as I can, I’ve tried to keep that child alive inside, no matter how dark the world can get at times.

Christmas then, for me, is a time when the world seems to tune into that same way of thinking. Whilst we may all follow different beliefs, it’s still a time when you really want to believe in the idea of Santa Claus and elves and reindeer and all that kind of thing and certainly a time when you want to believe that peace on Earth might just be possible. It’s a time to be children again. Whilst we might all return to reality a few days later, I think the world would be a sadder place if we didn’t allow ourselves to dream like children at least once a year.

So here it is to a fun, peaceful, loving and kind Christmas to you all whether you be in the UK, Bangladesh, America, Pakistan, Canada, India or any of the many other countries where people follow this blog. May you know peace and goodwill with your family, friends and neighbours.
